Our Verdict

The 3030is are nevertheless another superb speaker in Q Acoustics. They deserve a place on the shortlist

For

  • Insightful and expressive
  • Impressive, well-integrated bass
  • Fine construct

Against

  • Tough contest

Back at 2018, Q Acoustics established its exceptional 3000I speaker array. It appeared fully formed with numerous standmounter alternatives, a massive tower and committed home theater offerings. Now, amazingly and with very little warning, we now have another version in the kind of this 3030i.

The Q Acoustics 3030is now the biggest of the 3 standmounters in the scope and, together with the recent versions currently having gained five-star evaluations, they have a significant legacy to uphold.

It comes as no shock to discover that Q Acoustics has stuck closely to its effective recipe for its 3030is, only adding a bigger mid/bass unit plus a more generous cupboard.

With that the speaker’therefore enclosure packaging 12.5 litres of volume — over twice that of those 3020is (6.1 litres) — the bigger mid/bass driver and cupboard works nicely for bass expansion, lively reach and the capacity to perform more loudly.

Enclosure form 2-way reflex

Bass device 16.5cm

Treble device 22mm

Frequency reaction 46Hz — 30kHz

Impedance 6 ohms

Sensitivity 88dB

Dimensions (hwd) 32.5 x 20 x 33cm

The 3030I’s 16.5cm mid/bass (upwards from 12.5cm from the junior version ) is based upon the one used from the 3050I floorstanders, but tweaked to operate within this particular installation. It hands over to some 22mm dome tweeter in 2.4kHz.

This tweeter is shared across the scope and can be a pleasingly comprehensive and elegant unit. Here, however, it’s decoupled from the front panel to offer isolation in the vibrations created by the mid/bass device, which will help enhance focus and detail.

The cupboard keeps the 3000I show family look, so much so that some might struggle to distinguish between the numerous standmounters of this range from a picture.

It’therefore comparatively heavy, to provide that additional quantity, so when space is at a premium you might desire to check at the more compact versions rather. As together with all the other speakers at the scope, the enclosure is braced for rigidity and closely damped to minimise some enclosure resonances.

Compatibility

Q Acoustics 3030i compatibility

The rear-firing port means it’s best to leave a little space between the back of the speaker and the wall behind it, to permit the port to operate correctly.

We play with positioning and locate the 3030would be to be refreshingly unfussy. In our evaluation space, they sound better when put round 40cm out to the space, but stay fairly balanced even when far nearer. A modest toe-in towards the listening position helps solidify the stereo picture, but the specific angle doesn’t prove overly crucial.

Speakers at this level need to have the ability to operate with a large selection of gear. They have to be simple to drive that a micro-system, for example Denon’s D-M41DAB, may deal and have enough in the means of smoothness to seem great with low-bitrate music flows

Yet, given appropriately gifted electronics, for example Rega’s Brio using a partnering Planar 3 turntable or Marantz’s 6006 series CD player and amplifier, these speakers need to have the ability to shine.

Sound

Q Acoustics 3030i sound

Give these boxes a couple of days to settle plus they create a sound which ’s recognizable yet amazingly muscular in comparison to other 3000I show standmounters. Like others in the scope, these are cohesive actors with a sleek tonal balance and easy-going nature.

Rivals for example Dali’s Oberon 1s or B&W’s 607s might provide a more vibrant and exciting noise, however the Qs counter that using a balanced, slightly understated but consistently engaging functionality.

We listen to Tchaikovsky’s Marché Slave Op. 31 along with also the 3030is react using a large scale sound packed with power. The assured bass heft is delivered, together with the speakers bringing lots of weight into the low-end. Pleasingly, that this excess dose of bass is nicely incorporated and well controlled.

We may ’t help but delight in how these boxes monitor the audio ’s roller-coaster dynamics and their composure when pushed hard. They operate more smoothly at large amounts than we’d anticipate to get a product of the price also.

Switching into Massive Attack’s Heligoland, we respect the 3030is’ skill to trace multiple instrumental strands along with how that they provide low level sounds at a crowded mix. These are incredibly comprehensive actors but they provide that information in a coherent and unforced way.

They’re rhythmic and equipped to communicate the shifting momentum of a sheet of music nicely. It all makes for a hugely rewarding listening experience; one which had us playing track after course long after the evaluation session finished.

Verdict

The 3030is certainly are a welcome addition to the 3000Id array. They have the features of the younger sisters, but include a massive piece of power to the event. Simply place, you can purchase those with confidence.
